Cold & Hydration – All You Need to Know

You may have heard too how cold tightens the skin and makes it look shiny and fresh, but in fact low temperatures, as well as sudden temperature changes, dry our skin out, making it look weary and dim, especially around the mouth and nose.  

The solution? Deep, proper skin hydration. Below, you will discover some simple ways of hydrating your skin that will help you shield your skin against the colds of this winter!

Vitamin Ε is the skin’s antidote against the harmful agency of the notorious free radicals, one of which is dryness and premature ageing. So, it is important to consume foods rich in vitamin e, but also use skincare products that contain it.  

Proper Hydration for… Dry Skins  

Dry skins are low in lipids, which makes them much more sensitive in low temperatures, causing them to develop wrinkles and laxity.  

To hydrate your dry skin, use first creamy skincare products, which are able to retain water within the lower layers of the skin, thus affording it elasticity, smoothness and freshness.  

Still, it would be good to remember that, no matter how rich and creamy the product looks, it must be properly absorbed from the skin – and this requires certain ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides (substances necessary for water retention within the skin). Hence, you may have to use some kind of serum for deeper hydration of your skin.  

Bear also in mind that cosmetics are better absorbed during the night. So, choose a good quality night cream, and strengthen its effect once or twice a week with skincare mask.   

Proper Hydration for… Oily Skins  

If you think that oily skins do not actually need hydration, you are very much mistaken! Seborrhoea is, in fact, a common symptom of skin that is thirsty. Just check for products with special composition for oily skins, so as to properly balance sebum production.

Lips Hydration 

The skin of our lips is rather thin, and that is why it requires the frequent use of a Lip Balm with sunscreen filters, sometimes many times within the day.  

Before lying down, try to apply a layer of night cream onto your lips for a few minutes, and then wipe away gently the quantity that has not been absorbed with some cotton.
